65th Anniversary Giving Fund
65 Years of Service in Houston
Young Audiences of Houston was founded in 1956 to deliver classical music programs to students in Houston and introduce children to professional musicians. 65 years later, Young Audiences of Houston has a roster of more than 260 talented and creative teaching artists in more than 15 artistic disciplines who work with over 140,000 children across Texas each year.
It's no secret that 2020 has been an exceptionally challenging year for artists, teachers, students, families, and nonprofits everywhere. In March, we postponed our annual gala fundraiser to ensure the safety of our staff and guests. In April, we paid our artists to continue creating through the cancellation of more than 430 program contracts. In May, we launched our online auction and began training our artists to deliver programs virtually, inclusively, and compassionately. We haven't slowed down since then, and we don't expect to!
As we've seen over the last eight months, challenges lead to innovation and adaptation. From converting our conference room to a digital recording studio, to launching our first online activity library for teachers and families, Young Audiences of Houston answered the call for our community. Children need more support than ever to succeed in school, explore their ideas and emotions and connect with one another.
There is no substitute for conquering public speaking through performing theatre, digging into science with a campus garden, or making breakthroughs in math by dancing it out. By donating to YAH, you are giving a child in Houston the opportunity to discover their hidden talents, create something new and special, and learn in a way that truly engages and inspires them.
