full steam ahead
Full STEAM Ahead connects resources, lessons, partnerships and ideas through an open educational resource sharing website made available to parents, educators, and community members.

The Full STEAM Ahead Initiative is designed to benefit students with limited access to high quality STEM and arts-integrated opportunities. Many women in STEM fields cite including the arts as a way to lower barriers for and encourage girls, young women, and minorities to pursue STEM professionally, groups that are traditionally underrepresented in STEM related fields. Full STEAM Ahead, through its innovative, accessible approach to STEM learning, provides the training and resources needed to engage underrepresented students and help them develop proficiency in foundational STEM concepts.
While there are currently isolated individual efforts by local organizations to integrate arts and creativity into STEM subjects and classrooms, there is currently no coordinated effort or systems in place that combine, refine and deliver STEAM curriculum for students in our region created with oversight from teachers, business professionals and teaching artists in collaboration. These collective efforts align programming, research, communication and delivery to more effectively and efficiently support the Full STEAM Ahead initiative in an unprecedented effort to regionally infuse arts into STEM curriculum. This project serves students in the greater Houston area, including the counties of Montgomery, Liberty, Walker, Brazoria, Fort Bend, and Galveston.

volunteer opportunity - innovation week
Young Audiences of Houston would like to invite STEM professionals to join us for phase two of Full STEAM Ahead, as a FSA Mentor. FSA Mentors will support classroom projects during Innovation Week, an entrepreneurial immersion for 5th grade students and teachers where teams of students are challenged to consider real-world issues within the health, Aerospace, Engineering, Health, and Science industries. Local artists and mentors will be invited to lend their knowledge and expertise during the 5 day immersion into creativity and innovation.
During Innovation Week, students will confront a real world challenge encountered by professionals in STEM industries. Local artists and mentors from STEM industries will be invited to partner with teachers to provide limited assistance during the delivery of instructions to students. Young inventors will then create and present their artistically innovative solutions to STEM Panelists during the final presentation to spotlight Innovation Week.
Innovation Week will take place in the spring of 2020.
For more information, please visit the FSA website at www.STEAMHouston.org and fill out the FSA Mentor application.
