Now in its 70th year, Young Audiences of Houston implements over 2,592 programs each year with 192 talented artists that reach over 289,812 students and teachers annually at schools, libraries, community centers, and hospitals with limited programming for college and adult continuing education programs, Young Audiences of Houston primarily serves children Early Childhood through the 12th grade within the boundaries of the 51 greater Houston area school districts, including counties of Harris, Montgomery, Liberty, Waller, Brazoria, Matagorda, Fort Bend, Jefferson, Polk, Galveston, Orange, Wharton, Jeff Davis, and Jackson. A priority of the Fund is to support venues with limited access to the arts, where the impact of a Young Audiences of Houston program will have heightened and lasting results. Each year over 78% of our programs are subsidized or free to schools and youth service organizations, made possible through the generosity of our donors and supporters. They will learn about different mediums to work with such as drawing, painting, and sculpture. From that movement, Harlem’s writers gained recognition but the visual artists remain virtually unknown.
