Wharton Afterschool Clubs

Young Audiences of Houston is proud to partner with Wharton Dual Language Academy to provide high-quality afterschool enrichment experiences that encourage creativity, collaboration, and confidence.

Students participate in weekly hands-on activities led by professional teaching artists from Young Audiences of Houston in a safe and engaging afterschool environment. Students must attend Wharton Dual Language Academy to register.

  • Afterschool clubs are held on scheduled school days only. Clubs will not meet on school holidays, campus closures, or during Thanksgiving Break.

Available Clubs

Soccer (1-5)

Grades: 1–5
Day: Mondays
Time: 4:20 - 5:20 PM

Ready to play? Our Soccer Fundamentals after-school program welcomes all skill levels! Students build dribbling, passing, shooting, footwork, and game awareness in a fun, supportive environment. Beginners develop a strong foundation, while experienced players take on new challenges to continue improving.

Heading 1

Visual Arts (K-3)

Grades: K-3

Day: Tuesdays

Time: 4:20 - 5:20 PM

Bring stories to life through animation! Students create original characters and explore flipbooks, clay animation, paper cutouts, and stop-motion while learning the basics of visual storytelling. By the end of the workshop, they'll animate their own short story.

Chess (PK-K)

Grades: PK-K

Day: Wednesdays

Time: 4:20 - 5:20 PM

Chess Nuts is a fun, high-energy introduction to chess that combines music, movement, games, puppets, and interactive activities. Students build confidence, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills while learning the fundamentals of chess in an engaging and supportive environment.

Theatre (1-5)

Grades: 1-5

Day: Wednesdays

Time: 4:20 - 5:20 PM

Students take center stage in this creative theatre class, building acting skills through warm-ups, improvisation, character creation, storytelling, and performance. Along the way, they develop confidence, creativity, collaboration, empathy, and communication skills.

Hip Hop (K-3)

Grades: K-3

Day: Thursdays

Time: 4:20 - 5:20 PM

Students learn foundational hip hop moves while building rhythm, coordination, balance, and confidence. Through fun choreography and creative movement, participants develop self-expression, teamwork, and performance skills in an engaging, supportive environment.

Advanced Chess

INVITE ONLY*

Day: Fridays

Time: 4:20 - 5:20 PM

This invitation-only program is for experienced Wharton chess players. Students sharpen advanced strategies, tactics, and competitive play through engaging lessons and challenging matches. Designed for dedicated players, the class builds critical thinking, confidence, and tournament-ready skills while fostering a continued love of chess.

Welcome to the Chess Party! Through a fun, engaging approach, students learn chess strategies, tactics, and problem-solving skills in a supportive, kid-centered environment. Perfect for beginners and experienced players alike, this program builds confidence, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of the game.

Flag Football (3-8)

Grades: 3-8

Day: Thursdays

Time: 4:20 - 5:20 PM

This fun and active class introduces students to the fundamentals of flag football in a positive, team-oriented environment. Participants will develop essential skills such as passing, catching, route running, defensive techniques, agility, teamwork, and sportsmanship through engaging drills and gameplay.

Time: 4:20 - 5:20 PM

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate?
Only currently enrolled Wharton students in the listed grade levels.

When does registration open?

Registration opens on Monday, August 17, 2026, and closes on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Please note that registration may close early if a club reaches capacity.


When do clubs begin and end?
Clubs begin on September 8th, 2026. The final club meetings will take place during the first week of December 2026.

Can I register for more than one club?
Yes, provided schedules do not overlap and space is available.

Will clubs meet during Thanksgiving week?

No. There will be no club meetings during Thanksgiving week. This week is not included in the session count.

Where do I pick up my child?

After the end of the session, parents will pick students up at the main office. 

Are refunds available?

Once payment is finalized, no refunds will be issued.

When is payment due?

Payment is required at the time of registration to reserve your child's spot.
